Meet the Board Chair, Katy Cummings

Dove House Board Member Spotlight: Katy Cummings, Board Chair

Katy Cummings is the 2021 Dove House Board Chair

Meet Katy Cummings, Chair of the Dove House Board of Directors. Katy has served as a volunteer with Dove House for several years, and we are grateful she has chosen to offer her expertise and passion for our work in this critical leadership role.

Katy has over two decades of experience as a leader in the nonprofit sector, specifically in fundraising, strategic planning, volunteer management, board development and marketing and communications. She has worked at nonprofits in the fields of substance abuse and mental health, child welfare advocacy and higher education. Today, Katy is the executive director at the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County.

Her work experience is the perfect fit for the role, but, perhaps, more important than that, Katy cares deeply about the mission of Dove House.

“Substance abuse touches so many of our lives and has a rippling effect on families – mine included,” said Katy. “This is a mission I have professionally and personally worked to help elevate for many years. When Wendy asked me to volunteer at Dove House, I jumped at the opportunity!”

As board chair, Katy works directly with Wendy Noe, the executive director of Dove House, to help plan, implement and monitor the strategic plan and organizational goals. She also leads the board meetings, comprised of other community leaders who volunteer for Dove House. She loves spreading the message about Dove House and its mission to help vulnerable women in our community.

“Dove House is a special place. Women face so many obstacles to accessing help for their addiction, and Dove House does an amazing job of reducing many of those roadblocks, including giving women a free place to stay and access quality programming,” said Katy. “On a daily basis, women’s lives are changed, and when their lives change, so do those around them. I love the staff and the women who have the courage to walk through these doors.”

You will find Katy at her favorite Dove House event, the Celebration Luncheon, which is coming up on September 22 at the Biltwell Event Center. And if you connect with her online, don’t be surprised to see her actively fundraising to support one of her favorite local nonprofits—Dove House!

“Substance abuse, trauma and mental health are all huge issues in our society. It was an issue before the pandemic and even more so now. Like any other disease, the women we serve need help,” said Katy. “There’s nothing better than helping people find recovery! Dove House is a remarkable, inspiring place and I’m honored to play a small role in its growth and history.”
