April is Alcohol Awareness Month: What You Need to Know About Women and Alcohol
April is Alcohol Awareness Month. During this month, we hope to increase outreach and education on the risks related to alcohol use disorder, as well as prevention and treatment. At Dove House, our mission is to empower women to become substance free, self-sufficient, and healthy. We accomplish our mission through recovery programming and treatment services in a residential setting, at no cost to our Doves.
Alcohol Awareness Month is an important opportunity to highlight our mission and share some eye-opening statistics to aid those struggling with alcohol to understand its negative impacts and know they can seek help.
Did you know?
- 140,000 people die each year from excessive alcohol use
- Alcohol is the fourth leading cause of preventable death in the US
- Women start to have alcohol-related problems sooner and at lower drinking amounts than men due to biological differences
If you or someone you love might be displaying symptoms of alcohol use disorder (AUD), we encourage you to get help and explore a recovery center, like Dove House, where you can turn your life around and learn to live substance-free.Symptoms of AUD can include drinking excessive amounts and struggling to control the amount of consumption, having an intense craving for alcohol at all hours of the day, drinking in situations you know are inappropriate or dangerous, and more.
It can be extremely difficult to acknowledge you have a problem, take action and seek help. However, this courageous first step can improve the rest of your life. Dove House is the largest recovery housing program for women in Marion County and Dubois County. We know that recovery is possible. Our goal is to support each and every Dove through their journey to live a substance-free life.
